Your Inherited View of Money

Money means something different to everyone.  What money can provide for you depends on your values and expectations.

Let’s have a look at some common phrases that appear in our daily lives, which provide an insight into how we view money:

“Money doesn’t grow on trees”

“The love of money is the route of all evil”

“Money isn’t everything”

Now, considering we all want, and need, money, yet are brought up hearing these phrases, no wonder we get ourselves in a subconscious twist and often  self-sabotage our chances of becoming wealthy.

If you can relate to any of the quotes above, then I highly recommend you read Paul Zane Pilzer’s book, “God Wants You To Be Rich: How And Why Everyone Can Enjoy Material And Spiritual Wealth In Our Abundant World”.  Paul Zane Pilzer is an Economist, and this book will definitely shake up any pre-conceived limiting ideas that you have about money and wealth.  It’s a very easy read. It really should be a must-read for everyone who is in a profession where they make financial decisions, for example, politicians

Now, here is a quote from the author W. Somerset Maugham that turns these others on their head:

“Money is like a sixth sense without which you cannot make a complete use of the other five”.

How do you feel about that?

At the core, for most people, money means freedom and choice for both themselves, their family, and for those less fortunate.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a higher purpose that drives you to becoming wealthy?  If your thoughts are going straight to buying a new car, or a boat, you might like to dig a little deeper into yourself.

If you really think about it, the reason you want money is to do something, or be someone.  Many people who are immeasurably wealthy didn’t start out thinking they would be a billionaire.  They wanted to improve their living situation to a degree beyond their current circumstances.  As their circumstances improved, their concept of wealth also grew.  If their mindset didn’t grow at least at the same rate, then they would have remained in the financial position they were in at that point.

You might need to read this again, and let that concept perculate…

You see, our thoughts and feelings about money are a mindset, and the broader and more grand our purpose and beliefs, the larger our bank balance will become.

Follow your passion, with integrity, and have a goal for what you want to do with your money – a game plan.  Do you have a game plan  for getting wealthy?

Remember that becoming wealthy does not mean you become a bad person who is mean and power hungry, it just means that you have unlocked the vault which you had been keeping yourself in, under some illusion that obtaining unlimited wealth was either beyond your reach, or against the will of a higher power.

The world is full of stories of those who have built financial empires and who have chosen to help those who are less fortunate.  Just look at Bill Gates, Sir Richard Branson, Oprah Winfrey, Nelson Mandela…  I could go on and on.

Before you can truly become wealthy, look at what your beliefs are about money.  What does it mean to you?  What are your values in relation to money?

Do you feel that money flows easily to you, or is something that is easy for others, and not for you?

The way you answer this question will tell you where you need to start on your journey towards wealth.
